Functional Job Analysis

FitSense Australia can assist organisations in analysing the functional job demands of their employees. A functional job analysis can assist in determining the fitness requirements of staff or activities that may place staff at a higher risk of injury.

FitSense Australia works closely with organisations to scientificially analyse job requirements, report on findings and provide testing and education recommendations.

FitSense Australia uses three analysis methods to analyse job function:

  • Time analysis - the duration of activities;
  • Motion analysis - the type of activity; and
  • Intensity analysis - the aerobic and strength requirements of activities.

The functional job analysis process involves the following stages:

  • Interviews - subjectively identify job requirements based on employee feedback;
  • Observations - observe a sample group of employees undertaking duties in a normal working environment;
  • Measurement - objectively indentify job requirements. This may involve looking at employee activity, intensity (eg. heart rate and lifting loads), joint angles in movement and daily activity patterns;
  • Research - investigate published research relating to the job roles being analysed;
  • Draft Recommendation Submission;
  • Trial Testing - if testing recommendations are made in the submission, trial testing will be conducted on a pilot group; and
  • Refinement and Final Recommendation Submission.
